Newspaper Awards
The work of press photographers, however remarkable, counts for little without publications that are prepared to use them well. This is recognised by the Getty Images Newspaper of the Year awards. The judges were looking for titles which demonstrated an enthusiasm for good photography both in how it is taken and how it is displayed to the reader.

Newspaper of the Year
In the newspaper of the year category the judges continued to be impressed by the tabloid Daily Mirror, a winner in three of the last four years, and The Times, a posh title that has made the not always easy transition from broadsheet to tabloid. After much deliberation though, they agreed that the decidedly broadsheet Sunday Herald is Getty Images Newspaper of the Year.
The Award was collected by the newspaper’s Editor, Richard Walker, Picture Editor Elaine Livingstone, and the Sunday Herald Editor Richard Walker.

Magazine of the Year
In a field where many titles are little more than glorified mail order catalogues the judges, headed by PA’s Martin Keene, were unanimous in choosing a weekly magazine outstanding in its use of fine photography. The oldest, and this year at least, the best.
The Getty Images Newspaper Magazine of the Year is The Sunday Times Magazine, their award was collected by its Picture Editor, Monica Allende.
